We are currently seeking a Training Coordinator – Mining and Underground to join our expanding McIlvenna Bay project team. This is a full-time position based at the McIlvenna Bay project site working 4 days on and 3 days off with the possibility of 7 days on and 7 days off in the future. Foran Mining has recently completed a positive feasibility study for the McIlvenna Bay project and have started advanced design, permitting and preliminary construction activities to build underground mining and milling facilities as well as the supporting infrastructure. A Training Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to manage and oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive mining health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and stakeholders at site – in addition to functional and job/task specific training. Ensure and oversee the development of engaging training materials, identify and assess training needs, conduct interactive training sessions, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and evaluate the effectiveness of the training programs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with department managers and subject matter experts to identify training needs and objectives.
  • Design, develop, and update training programs and materials, ensuring alignment with mining industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Incorporate adult learning principles and innovative training techniques to enhance effectiveness.
  • Manage and/or conduct training sessions for employees, including new hires and ongoing skill development programs.
  • Utilize and oversee various training methods, such as classroom instruction, on the job, hands-on exercises, e-learning, and simulations, working with training providers as required.
  • Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to ensure optimal results.
  • Ensure that all training programs emphasize safety procedures and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Ensure that training content aligns with current health and safety regulations, mine site policies, and industry standards.
  • Work closely with the Health and Safety team to identify and address safety training gaps.
  • Participate in safety drills and simulations with a view to identifying training opportunities regarding emergency readiness.
  • Maintenance of accurate training records, including attendance, assessment results, and certifications.
  • Generate reports on training progress and effectiveness, providing insights for continuous improvement.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to mining and training.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and enhancements to training programs.
  • Foster open communication with employees and management to address training concerns and feedback.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure training aligns with project site goals and objectives.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by encouraging proactive safety practices, reporting of safety concerns, and participation in safety initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Health and Safety team to identify training needs, align training programs with safety objectives, and share insights from training evaluations.
  • Ensure and monitor compliance with health and safety training requirements and ensure that personnel receive necessary refresher training.
  • Collaborate with the Health and Safety team in investigating incidents and accidents to identify root causes and recommend preventative measures.

Job Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in underground mining operations, with a strong understanding of mining processes and safety protocols.
  • 1-3 years of relevant training experience in a similar role in an underground mining setting.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering effective training programs.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies will be considered an asset.
  • A deep understanding of local and national health and safety regulations relevant to underground mining operations and ensuring compliance and adherence to legal requirements during training.
  • The capacity to analyze training effectiveness, gather feedback, and make data-driven improvements to training programs.
  • Familiarity with underground mining industry regulations and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for conveying complex health and safety concepts in a clear and understandable manner during training sessions.

  • We offer a competitive starting salary range of $90,000- $105,000/year based on experience and qualifications.
