This will be a full-time position, working 14 days on and 14 days off and based at the McIlvenna Bay project site. Foran Mining has recently completed a positive feasibility study for the McIlvenna Bay project and have started advanced design, permitting and preliminary construction activities to build underground mining and milling facilities as well as the supporting infrastructure. As part of the Mine Geology team, a Project Mine Geologist is required to work with the Senior and Resource Geologists to support underground functions, schedules, and maintain short- and long-term drilling programs. The Project Mine Geologist actively liaises with the Engineering team to ensure that drilling support is accounted for in short- and mid-range mine plans.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and conducting regular safety meetings and inspections.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor a team of geologists and geological technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Assist with the management of safe work procedures and grade control data collection processes (including QAQC systems)
  • Plan, design, and monitor grade control drilling programs to accurately delineate the orebody ahead of mining activities.
  • Work with the Resource Geologist to plan, execute, and monitor resource definition drilling programs.
  • Ensure that drilling activities are conducted up to the established Foran standards through weekly site inspections.
  • Provide timely and accurate completion of daily, and weekly reconciliation reports including stockpile management, resource definition or grade control drilling, mine geology, and grade drivers.
  • Communicate geological, geotechnical, and grade information to site technical, management, and contractor personnel to assist with mine planning and achieving production targets.
  • Facilitate the access, visualization, interpretation, and application of geological data (including QAQC) for use in mineral resource estimation, grade control, geotechnical, geo-metallurgical, mine production, and drill and blast functions.
  • Support Mine Geologists to ensure that ore is extracted to maximize recovery and minimize ore loss and dilution.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to monitor blending schedules as required.
  • Produce weekly and monthly reports on geology functions and compliance to plan.
  • Assist with the management and reporting compliance of drilling costs against the site budget.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost-saving measures, and operational efficiencies within the operation.
  • Ensure compliance with mining regulations, environmental permits, and company policies related to underground mining operations.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies or incidents that may occur during underground mining activities, following established emergency protocols.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration with other mine site departments and personnel to optimize overall mine site operations.

Job Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of a tertiary qualification in Geology (B.Sc. Geology)
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in underground mining operations.
  • An understanding of operational requirements.
  • An understanding of underground grade control processes and practices.
  • Proficiency with Datamine and Deswik mining softwares.
  • Understanding of sampling and QAQC.
  • Exposure to mine reconciliation and resource estimation.
  • Ability to plan, design, and monitor drilling programs based on project requirements.
  • Demonstrate a high-level understanding of mining processes, data management and validation processes, ore-forming processes, and 3D modelling techniques.
  • Possession of relevant safety certifications, such as Mine Supervisor Certification, and First Aid is an asset.
  • Budding leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse group of personnel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey instructions, coordinate with teams, and communicate with mine site management.
  • The ability to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and manage shifting priorities in a dynamic mining environment.
  • Ability to register as a professional with APEGS.

Physical Demands

  • The role may require walking long distances and climbing ladders or stairs to access different areas of the mine.
  • You may spend extended periods standing while observing mining operations and coordinating with the mining team.
  • Some tasks may involve lifting heavy equipment or materials, such as tools, safety barriers, or core boxes.

Additional Benefits

  • We offer a competitive starting salary range of $90,000- $105,000/year based on experience and qualifications.
