Foran Mining Corporation (TSX:FOM) is a modern mining company that wants to change what mining means to people. We are seeking two (2) Diamond Driller II’s to join our expanding McIlvenna Bay project team in July 2024. These will be full-time positions, working 14 days on and 14 days off and based at the McIlvenna Bay project site. Foran Mining has recently completed a positive feasibility study for the McIlvenna Bay project and have started advanced design, permitting and preliminary construction activities to build underground mining and milling facilities as well as the supporting infrastructure. A Diamond Driller II ensures that all grade control drilling in the underground is completed as per site standard operating procedures. This includes coring, grouting holes, moving the drill rig between setups, conducting preventative maintenance and repairs of the diamond drill, conducting down hole surveys, and any other tasks assigned by supervision. The Diamond Driller II is required to oversee Helper activities at the drill site and sign-off on recovered core prepared by the Helper.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and conducting regular safety meetings and inspections.
  • Train and mentor drillers helpers, providing guidance and support to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Operate a diamond drill in accordance with site standard operating procedures.
  • Setup staging in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.
  • Understand basic slinging and load management for drill moves.
  • Ensure that all holes are grouted as per site operating procedures.
  • Provide pre- and post-site assessments.
  • Work with stakeholders to remedy any site deficiencies prior to drill mobilization and work to minimize drill downtime.
  • Assist with the continued development and implementation of operational standards.
  • Assist with the continued development of helper training programs.
  • Supervise helpers to ensure that all tasks are completed in accordance with site standard operating procedures.
  • An understanding of piloting and reaming programs would be an asset.
  • Ability to provide meaningful feedback to drill rig and tooling suppliers while Foran is actively engaged in the research and development of new drilling technology and tooling.
  • Ensure compliance with mining regulations, environmental permits, and company policies related to underground mining operations.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies or incidents that may occur during underground mining activities, following established emergency protocols.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration with other mine site departments and personnel to optimize overall mine site operations.

Job Qualifications & Skills

  • High School Diploma or Vocational training.
  • At least 0 to 3 years of underground core drilling experience.
  • Helpers with at least 2 to 3 years of experience will also be considered.
  • A desire to engage drill rig and tooling suppliers to support the research and development of new drilling technology and tooling.
  • An understanding of or exposure to various drilling activities including grouting, reaming, and recovery operations.
  • Able to perform basic drill maintenance and repairs.
  • Possession of relevant safety certifications and First Aid is an asset.
  • Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse group of personnel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey instructions, coordinate with teams, and communicate with mine site management.
  • The ability to identify and address operational challenges, troubleshoot issues, and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and manage shifting priorities in a dynamic mining environment.

Physical Demands

  • The role may require walking long distances and climbing ladders or stairs to access different areas of the mine.
  • You may spend extended periods standing while observing mining operations and coordinating with the mining team.
  • Some tasks may involve lifting heavy equipment or materials, such as tools, safety barriers, or core boxes.
